A student of Terry Middle School in Mesquite was killed Wednesday afternoon and three other people were injured after a Mesquite ISD bus crashed into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon.

KXAS-TV reports that 42 children were aboard the bus when it crash about a mile from Horn High School in Mesquite. Three students, three police officers, and the driver of the bus were hospitalized. Thankfully, their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The crash remained under investigation Thursday, and police have not said what may have caused it.

Aerial footage from the crash site shows the school bus lying on its side with its roof touching the utility pole it crashed into. Sections of the vehicle appeared charred. The engine of the vehicle was consumed by flames, and KXAS reports that the vehicle was visibly smoldering when emergency responders arrived.
