Belton police are investigating after a teenager was fatally shot Thursday night.

In a media release from the City of Belton, officials said the shooting occurred near the 1600 block of South Wall Street around 8 PM January 2. According to police, the victim - a 15-year-old boy - collapsed after entering a home at which he'd been staying. It was discovered that he'd been shot in the back, and neighbors reported having heard two gunshots in the area.

The victim was transported to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, where he was pronounced dead.

Belton police were withholding the victim's name Friday afternoon pending notification of his next of kin.

Police are asking anyone who may have information that could help in this investigation and bring the shooter or shooters to justice to contact them at (254) 933-5840.
