Belton ISD Board Approves Three New Schools
It’s official: after studying current facilities for nearly three years, Belton ISD’s school board approved “Roadmap to BISD 2025,” which calls for building a new elementary school and a new high school.
According to Belton ISD, enrollment has grown by about 3,500 students over the last ten years with similar growth predicted for the next decade. As a result, the district’s elementary schools are expected to be at or near capacity in 2019, its middle schools in 2020, and its high schools in 2021.
Before any project is shovel-ready, funding will need to be approved by voters residing in Belton ISD. Trustees tentatively plan to call for a bond election in 2017 to fund the construction of the new campuses. Pending approval, construction of the new elementary school could begin in 2017 with the campus opening in August 2019. Officials predict construction on the high school would likely start in 2018 with that campus opening in August 2021.
