Belton Teen Victim of Hit-And Run – Suspect in Custody
A 16-year-old Belton girl is fighting for her life after being hit by a car while jogging Saturday night. The driver, who did not stop, was in police custody Monday.
City of Belton Public Information Officer Paul Romer reports that the hit-and-run occurred on Industrial Park Road Saturday. A passerby called 911 to report the collision at 7:10 PM.
According to her family, the victim, Rachael Westberg, suffered multiple skull fractures and brain trauma. Rachael's condition is severe, but her family is hoping prayer will help pull her through.
Romer reported that the suspect is a 21-year-old pizza delivery driver named Juan Luis DeLeon. He was located and arrested a few hours after the hit-and-run. Records indicate he was booked into the Bell County Jail at 12:17 AM Sunday and charged with failure to stop and render aid following an accident involving bodily injury - a third degree felony. His bond was set at $75,000.
