Belton Truck Theft Suspect Shoots Himself in Leg During Pursuit
Police in Belton say one of four men who fled from a stolen truck Monday injured himself when the gun he was carrying discharged.
It happened shortly before 10 AM when an officer attempted a routine traffic stop in the 1300 block of Fairway Drive. The driver of the suspect vehicle and three other men hoofed it once the truck came to a stop.
One man was captured immediately. Two others eluded captured.
But one poor guy...
Police say they found the injured suspect a short distance from the scene of the attempted stop. The man had a gunshot wound to the leg, and was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
It turns out a gun he was carrying discharged while he was running, striking him in the leg.
Instant karma? You decide.
As a precaution, officials placed nearby Miller Heights Elementary on a soft lockdown for about an hour, but say there's no indication of there having been any threat to the school.
