A Temple restaurant that's been a popular destination for after-work drinks and karaoke for close to 20 years was destroyed by a fire Monday.

Firefighters were dispatched to Brody's Steakhouse at Cactus Jack's, formerly Market Street Cafe, at 300 Southwest HK Dodgen Loop at 8:17 AM Monday. When they arrived, they spotted heavy smoke and flames in the front of the building and along the roof line. The heaviest flames seemed to be in the attic area of the structure.

By 12:11 PM, the fire was under control after firefighters used all the equipment at their disposal, including aerial apparatus, to battle the flames. The building is being considered a total loss, with damages totaling an estimated $650,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is believed to have started in some sort of container near the front exterior. Fire investigators say the blaze was accidental in nature.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The last employee to exit the building reportedly did so around 4 AM.
