Monday morning brought the relief of cooler temperatures to Central Texas, but Temple firefighters were still feeling the heat as they battled two fires.

The first occurred at a house in the 1000 block of South 47th Street. Christy Soto with our partners at News 10 reports that Temple Fire & Rescue crews were called to the scene around 6:30 AM. Whey they arrived, they saw flames issuing from the roof of the structure. It took roughly 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Thankfully, nobody was inside the house at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Soto reports that the house appears to have been undergoing a remodel.

Less than two hours later, Temple firefighters were called to Cactus Jack's Sports Cantina at 00 SW H K Dodgen Loop. At the time of this article's publication, firefighters had not yet released details about the fire, but had shared a photo in which thick, gray smoke can be seen billowing from the roof of the restaurant.

Cactus Jack's (now Brodie's Steakhouse at Cactus Jack's) is a popular spot for karaoke in Temple, and I remember when it was Market Street Cafe. Hopefully the structure didn't sustain too much damage and can be saved..

In the meantime, keep in mind that a burn ban remains in effect across Bell County. Cooler temperatures do not necessarily make for safer burning conditions. Until this cold front brings us more rain, everyone needs to do their part to help prevent fires.
