Celebrate Killeen 2015 Features Three Days of Fun
This time of year practically every Central Texas City has their own special celebration. Next month we have Bloomin Fest in Temple, tonight the annual Celebrate Killeen Festival begins and runs through Saturday. The public is invited to enjoy the free family fun
The official kickoff party is Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. in historic Downtown Killeen at Green Avenue Market, 717 N. 2nd Street. Activities will include food trucks, craft vendors and kiddie train rides. Live music from The Voodoo & Moonshine Band. Please Mother Nature, it can rain til 3, then it must STOP, for set up time.
The celebration continues Friday at the Killeen Community Center starting at 7 p.m. There will be a free, family friendly comedy show featuring comedian JR Brow. The Food Truck Competition also begins. You will have to pay for your food.
The carnival is also at the Community Center on the corner of WS Young and Veterans Memorial. You do have to pay for the carnival rides. You know those folks won't let you ride for free!
There is no entry fee, parking is free and there will be golf carts to shuttle you from the parking lots to the action.
The fun starts early on Saturday, (if running is fun). In this case it's also beneficial. The Fallen Heroes 5K run for the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund begins at 8 am. Get there at 7 if you did not register online.
Festival activities will be open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include entertainment, food, a petting zoo, pony rides, Kidfish, and a KISD wellness fair, all free. A free outdoor movie showing of Big Hero 6 starts at 8 p.m. at the Amphitheater. New this year is a free fireworks show at the very end.
