Celebration Held For New Mural At Waco Library

WACO, Texas (AP) — About 200 people gathered over the weekend to dedicate a mural many of them helped create on the side of a Waco library.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1b1GKYi ) the celebration was held Saturday at the East Waco Library. The mural, which includes scenes from East Waco's history, is part of a regional arts project backed by the Mid-America Arts Alliance.

Mayor Malcolm Duncan Jr. called it "the greatest mural in our city."

Those who worked on the mural included members of the public.

Project leader David Loewenstein noted that part of the mural depicts three World War II veterans who didn't give up looking for financing for a theater. That theater later became a grocery store, and then became the East Waco Library.
