Imagine the stench of urine of over 400 animals. Then imagine living in that.
Imagine the stench of urine of over 400 animals. Then imagine living in that.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, as well as a press release from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, over 400 critters living in their own filth in Lockhart, Texas before they were rescued.
The count included 56 guinea pigs, 28 dogs, 150 feeder mice and rats, 86 snakes (to which I'm guessing the mice and rats were fed), 15 goats, 8 skinks (lizards), 9 doves, 7 ferrets, 7 pigs, 6 pigeons, 4 geckos, 4 gerbils, 4 turtles, 3 bearded dragons, 2 ducks, 2 miniature pigs, 2 tortoises, a tarantula, and a turkey.
Officials found 421 animals that were alive, as well as "dozens of deceased animals". The animals were found to be living in cages filled with feces. The majority of the snakes were found in a closet. One of the dogs was living in a cage meant for a guinea pig.
According to the press release, charges are pending against the owner of the house.
