There's one less monster roaming the streets now that Victor Leon has been captured after 17 years on the run.

Our partners at News 10 report that Leon, 58, was arrested at a motel in Navasota Tuesday by federal marshals and Navasota police.

Back in 2002, a Bell County jury convicted Leon of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Witnesses testified that Leon sexually assaulted the young multiple times over several years.

Leon failed to show up for his sentencing, by a state district judge sentenced him in absentia to 80 years in prison.

Leon eluded capture for nearly two decades before being busted Tuesday. He wasn't alone, either. A woman named Tessie McCord was arrested along with him Tuesday, and is charged with harboring a fugitive. (I'll never understand where these creeps find women willing to hide them and lie for them. Makes my skin crawl.)

Bell County Jail records indicated Leon was booked at 5:21 PM Tuesday and was still being held there Thursday afternoon without bond.

Kudos to police for never giving up and putting this guy behind bars where he belongs.
