Copperas Cove Baseball Group Raising Funds for Family of Teen Fatally Injured at a Bus Stop Wednesday Morning
A Copperas Cove baseball group is asking the community to come together in support of the family of a local high school student who was struck by a car and died Wednesday.
15-year-old Cameron Raine, a freshman at Copperas Cove High School, was waiting at a school bus stop at the intersection of Cactus Lane and Pheasant Circle in Cove around 7:10 AM when he was struck by a Subaru sedan.
Raine was airlifted to Scott & White Hospital in Temple where he later passed away.
An organization called Hounds Baseball Family has started a crowd funding campaign to raise funds for Raine's medical and funeral expenses.
"No parent should ever have to endure the loss or make the decisions Team Raine has been faced with for their child," the group wrote on their CrowdRise campaign page. "As a community, friends and family, it is our job to be their strength during these weak hours. If you feel it in your heart please, please donate. The amount does not matter as it all adds up. Let's take the financial responsibilities on our shoulders so that they can heal and not worry."
The group had raised $5,860 as of 9:35 PM Thursday evening, which is about 84% of their original goal of $7,000. The group has pledged to raise the goal if it is met quickly.
