In case you hadn't noticed, superheroes are a huge deal right now.

If you're a long-time reader of comics or just getting started, or if you're looking to get your kids into the books, there's a new business in Temple you've got to visit.

The doors at Terp's Toys & Comics, 808 S. 31st St., are open now, and they'll have a grand opening this Saturday, June 9! In fact, our sister station, B106, will be there from 2-4 PM with free Pizza Hut pizza, so stop by and say hello!

Owner Matthew "Terp" Terpening is a friendly and knowledgeable guy. I stopped in to see him Tuesday and check out the new shop. We got to talking comics, and suddenly 90 minutes had gone by! It was a great experience, and Matthew's enthusiasm for all things comics and sci-fi is infectious.

Terp's carries Marvel and DC comics, as well as a few niche titles that might surprise you. You'll also find plenty of superhero socks, t-shirts, vinyl figures, action figures, and plushes. There are even Little Golden Books featuring kid-favorite heroes to get the little ones reading!

Plans are in the works for a literacy program at Terp's that will feature kids' favorite heroes reading to them. How cool is that?

Saturday's grand opening starts at 10 AM with a ribbon cutting featuring the Temple Chamber of Commerce. There'll be costumed heroes there throughout the day, and the first 25 customers through the doors will get a free pair of superhero socks! There'll also be big savings on plenty of other items in the store.

Below are a few photos I took during  my visit to give you a taste of what's in store when you visit Terp's Toys and Comics.
