Five children who had contact with a man diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas are under observation in their homes. Officials say the children are displaying no symptoms of the disease and are being monitored as a precaution.

Dallas ISD Superintendent Mike Miles said in a statement Wednesday that five students attended classes after being in contact with the unidentified Ebola patient this past weekend. Though the children show no signs of being sick, additional health and custodial staff will be present in Dallas area schools attended by the children.

This comes after news that staff at a Dallas hospital initially dismissed the Ebola patient after he sought help at an emergency room. The man soon became the first person diagnosed with the disease in the U.S. and was admitted to an isolation unit at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday.

Officials believe the man contracted the disease while traveling in Liberia, Africa.
