The driver of a dump truck that collided with a Bruceville-Eddy school bus Monday may have blacked out shortly before the crash due to a medical condition.

Sgt. Kenneth Proctor of the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department said the driver, a subcontractor for Lane Construction, cannot remember the collision and only became aware that it had occurred after the fact.

The head-on collision occurred on the southbound I-35 access road near mile marker 318 around 3:45 p.m. The driver of the bus was trapped, but emergency responders were able to free her and she was airlifted to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where she underwent surgery. She remained hospitalized Tuesday.

An adult aide was thrown from the bus and also taken to the hospital, along with six children. All were released Monday evening.
