Expect Smoke and Fire at Draughon-Miller Airport in Temple Thursday Afternoon
If you see smoke on the western horizon of Temple Thursday afternoon, don't panic. You're likely seeing a controlled burn at the airport.
Temple Fire & Rescue will be conducting a prescribed burn today (Thursday, April 11) at Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport, 7720-F Airport Road. The burn is scheduled to begin around 1:30 PM and conclude at 3:00 PM.
Fire crews will burn around 117 acres to remove dead grass and wildflower build-up. That'll cut down on the chances of an uncontrolled wildfire occurring as we enter the dry summer months and clear the area for the Central Texas Air Show.
By the way, the Air Show is scheduled for May 3rd through 5th. If you've never been, do yourself a favor and make plans to attend. It's always a great show, and this year's special guest is MiG 17-F performer Randy Ball.
