In a last-minute news release, the City of Killeen announced late Tuesday morning that free COVID-19 testing will be conducted from Noon to 7PM today at Destiny Church.

The testing site is a joint effort by former NFL Pro Bowl player Tommie Harris, MCI Diagnostics Center, The City of Killeen, and Let’s Move Killeen.

“Christmas is that time of the year where many people are passing out turkeys and toys to families in need,” said Harris. “But we are living in the middle of a health crisis, and I felt that giving free COVID tests is equally as important for our community.”

If you're in need of a COVID-19 test and want to take advantage of today's free event, you'll need to pre-register at mcicovid.com/qualifiedtest. Be sure to select Destiny Church in the Site Location/Group field of the registration form.

Destiny Church is located at 101 N W S Young Drive in Killeen.

Tommie Harris Jr. was raised in Killeen by way of Germany, and played pro ball as a defensive tackle for the San Diego Chargers and the Chicago Bears. He was selected for the NFL Pro Bowl in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He now lives in Dallas and works as a motivational speaker. He wanted to give back to the town where he grew up, hence today's free testing site.

MCI Diagnostic Center is a Tulsa, Oklahoma based lab that's veteran owned and currently using federal grant money to help them conduct COVID-19 tests throughout Texas.

If you're experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or believe you may have been exposed and infected, be sure to get registered for a test. If your symptoms are extreme, please seek emergency help. When you go for your test, be sure to wear a mask and give any other people you may encounter plenty of physical space.
