Friends in Crisis Shelter in Killeen Faces Temporary Closure
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the homeless community of Killeen.
The temporary closure of the Friends in Crisis shelter has forced some back out on the streets without a place to go for a shower or a hot meal.
The doors closed this past Saturday due to financial problems. Friends in Crisis is kept open thanks to private donations and a small number of funds that come in from the Killeen Community Development Block Grant according to Brandon Hamilton with KWTX who shared a great story about some of the residents who lived at the shelter.
With the doors of the Friends in Crisis shelter closing Saturday because of financial problems, his life changed again. The shelter was being kept open by mostly private donations and small funding from Killeen’s Community Development Block Grant.
In order to help the shelter reopen a Go Fund Me page has been set up with a goal of $200,000 dollars to get the facility up and running again along with a Facebook donation site. The Friends in Crisis shelter has a donation option on their website at http://familiesincrisis.net. Board members of the shelter have set up a Facebook donation site as well. If you would like to send a donation by mail, checks can be sent to
