Youth sports are a great way to get kids active and build their confidence and people skills. That's why the City of Harker Heights really needs our help to make the fall basketball season possible for local kids.

Call to Action!

This is definitely one of those moments where we need to come together as a community and realize that it takes a village to raise our babies and give them something to look up at to.

The city of Harker Heights needs head coaches for the AAU division for the fall basketball league immediately. There are 125 kids who are registered to play, but only five coaches.

Like, what the heck?! That means it will be 25 players per team, in a sport that only allows five versus five people. These babies have their heart set on playing one of the best sports in the world (in my opinion), but could possibly not get a chance to even enjoy it due to the lack of coaches.

I think we owe it to our children to allow them to have  just as much fun as we used to at a youth tournaments. Those away games were so fun! I wouldn’t want anybody's child to miss out on the chance to build new friendships and stay healthy all at once.

If you have a family member or friend who might be interested in coaching, please stop by the Harker Heights Recreational Center located at 307 Miller Crossing and fill out an application. You can also contact the athletic coordinator, Joshua. His number will be 254-953-5657, and he can help you out if you want to volunteer or have any other questions about the coaching.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE!

Of course giving back to the community is always a good thing, but did I mention that coaches also get discounts?

Head coaches will receive 50% registration discount for any family members playing in their division. If you have two children on one team, ball players registration will only be 50%.

In the event a head coach can’t complete the season, they will be required to pay the remaining balance or the athlete they registered will be removed from the league, which seems fair to me.

So, let’s get some volunteers who can commit to the whole season and take care of our village while helping these kids have a great time!
