Harker Heights, Texas Man Jailed on $50K Bond After Traffic Stop

After a traffic stop by Killeen Police, a Harker Heights, Texas man was jailed on $50,000 bond after being accused of carrying almost 10 pounds of marijuana, a handgun, and $2,000 in his car.

Officers pulled over 21-year-old Amon Wandell for speeding near Interstate 14 and W.S. Young Drive in Killeen, and asked him to step out of the vehicle, according to the arrest affidavit.

Killeen Traffic Stop Leads to Home Search

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that a K9 handler was on the scene at the time of the stop. When the handler ran his dog around the vehicle, the dog began to bark, indicating the presence of narcotics. Afterwards, the Killeen Police Department got a search warrant for Wandell's home. Officers claim to have found a total of 10 firearms, two of which are alleged to be stolen, along with an unspecified amount of marijuana. Over $1,200.00 in cash was also discovered at the home.

As of Thursday afternoon, Wandell was in the Bell County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail bond, but is not currently on the Bell County Inmate online listing.

Penalty for Marijuana Possession

Wandell was officially charged with possession of marijuana between 5 and 50 pounds. Possession of between 5 pounds and 50 pounds of marijuana is a felony, punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of no less than 2 years imprisonment, a maximum jail sentence of 10 years, and a fine up to but not exceeding $10,000, according to legal website norml.org.
