I-35 Closures Planned for Temple Saturday Night, Sunday Morning
A major traffic interruption happens tonight (Saturday, November 17) in Temple, as crews will close all southbound lanes and one northbound lane of I-35.
The following news release was issued by TxDOT's Jodi Wheatley:
Temple – I-35 Northbound Exit #301 to Central Ave. / Adams Ave. to Re-open 11.18.2018
On Saturday, November 17, from 8 pm to Sunday, November 18 at 11:45 am, both southbound mainlanes and one northbound mainlane of I-35 will be closed as the contractor shifts northbound mainlane traffic into a new alignment. At the same time, crews will be working to open a temporary northbound Exit #301 to Central Ave. / Adams Ave.
To facilitate the traffic shift work, both I-35 southbound mainlanes will close at Central Ave. / Adams Ave. Southbound traffic will detour off I-35 at Exit #301 Adams Ave. / Central Ave. Travelers will be directed through the Central Ave. / Adams Ave. intersections by police officers and re-enter southbound I-35 before S. Loop 363.
The contractor will also close the northbound frontage-road bridge over the railroad (north of Ave. H) at this time. This will be an extended closure, which will allow the contractor to complete the new northbound frontage road from the bridge to Central Ave., along with building the new, permanent northbound Exit #301 off-ramp.
Travelers on the east side of I-35 can access northbound I-35 mainlanes via 31st St. to Adams Ave., and then to the northbound frontage road. In addition, the new turnaround under I-35 at the railroad crossing and the turns at S. Loop 363 can be used to get to the new on-ramp at Ira Young Dr. to enter the I35 northbound mainlanes.
Travelers are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this overnight closure. Please remember to obey all warning and detour signs.
THIS CLOSURE IS PLANNED WEATHER PERMITTING. RAIN OR COLD TEMPERATURES COULD DELAY WORK.
