The people of Fort Hood and Killeen are scratching their heads wondering why mysterious deaths keep occurring.

According to a press release from Fort Hood, a soldier was found deceased behind company barracks on October 9, 2021.

Who Was the Soldier?

The soldier has been identified as Spc. Maxwell Hockin, 26, who entered the Army in March 2017 as a combat engineer. Spc Hockin was assigned to 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, and had been assigned to the 91st Engineer Battalion at Fort Hood since July 2017.

Spc. Hockin’s awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

“The entire Saber family is devastated by the loss of our true teammate and friend Specialist Maxwell Hockin,” said Lt. Col. Patrick Sullivan, commander, 91st Engineer Battalion. “He had an outstanding work ethic, was a mentor to his peers, and was always willing to help out the team. He will truly be missed. Our thoughts and our prayers are with Maxwell’s family during this difficult time.”

How Did He Die?

Spc. Hockin was found unresponsive behind company barracks and later pronounced dead. Currently the incident is under investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Fort Hood has stated that no further information will be released at this time while the investigation is underway.

Foul Play?

Many concerned citizens are questioning if Spc. Hockin's death was a result of foul play. This isn't the first time that Fort Hood has been at the center of a soldier's untimely death, and the public wants answers.
