Are You Dirty or Down Right Nasty? Texas’ Co-Sleeping Habits With Pets

From the start, I will admit I am neither! Please understand that this is 100% my opinion only. Let me explain. I do not go barefooted EVER, because I feel how nasty and dirty floors, carpets, sidewalks, and any other surface I may be walking on are.

Furthermore, I have to brush my teeth and wash my face, body, and feet every night before I even get into my bed. I have had this foot fetish of never going barefoot and keeping my feet clean since I started walking. So when I read this new study "Dirty Sleeping Habits Revealed," it blew my mind.

Do people allow their dogs, cats, and other pets in bed with them? Nope, not me. This is not allowed at my house, or at least not in my room. However, most Texans allow their pets to snooze with them. MattressNextDay CEO Martin Seeley kind of agrees with me:

These findings have highlighted the importance of prioritizing cleanliness in the bedroom to avoid the accumulation of dirt, sweat, and bacteria.

The study reveals how hygienic we are during our bedtime routine. The report shows how we co-sleep, brush our teeth, wash the sheets, and other hygiene habits at bedtime. Below are the numbers that apply to Texas as well as the rest of the country.

• 55% of cat owners admit to sleeping with their fur babies
• 66% of those surveyed let other pets (dogs) sleep in their bed, exposing them to diseases. (A recent report found that animals, including dogs, carry certain intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks.)
• 25% wash their sheets every two weeks
• 9% wait a month between washes
• 40% wash their sheets less frequently about every 2-3 months
• 41% rarely – or never – flip their mattress
• Notably, more than half of respondents admitted to not washing themselves before bedtime each night (highlighting the importance of maintaining regular cleaning routines to combat bacteria and germ buildup)
• 65% consistently brush their teeth before sleeping
• 17% admitted to rarely or never brushing their teeth before sleeping

To avoid being dirty or downright nasty, I advise you visit your favorite supplies store and buy sanitary wipes, shampoos, and soaps to keep your fur babies nice and clean. You might want to buy new sheets and clean up before bedtime too.
