An East Texas toddler suffered a skull fracture after she was allegedly thrown against a bathtub, and the man accused of injuring the child was taken into custody by law enforcement.

According to KETK, the man was arrested in Henderson County earlier this month after allegedly causing serious bodily injury to a toddler in his care.

What Investigators Say Happened to the Toddler

The arrest affidavit describes how a 2-year-old girl was taken to UT Health Hospital in Tyler on June 15 after 23-year-old Joshua Brooks, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, claimed the child had fallen and hit her head while getting out of the shower.

At the time of the incident, Brooks was caring for the victim and her 5-year-old sibling.

What the Child’s Stepsibling Told Investigators

The victim’s stepsibling told authorities they witnessed the entire incident and said Brooks had thrown the girl into the shower after she soiled herself. After the incident, the toddler was diagnosed with a 6-millimeter skull fracture, swelling to the brain, and a fractured right tibia.

The victim’s stepsibling later participated in a forensic interview and stated that she had allegedly seen Brooks hit the victim in the face and push her with his foot after throwing her into the shower.
