A shooting at a Target store in Austin left three people dead Monday afternoon. It happened during the busy back-to-school shopping rush. Police say the man, who they have identified as  Ethan Nieneker, fired the shots tried to get away in not one, but two stolen cars before being caught on the other side of the city.

"This was a sickening, cowardly act of gun violence," Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said in a message on X.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said officers received a call around 2:15 p.m. about gunfire in the Target parking lot. Investigators say Nathan first shot a Target employee who was collecting shopping carts. That man was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
