A terrifying situation played out on a youth baseball field over the weekend in Texas. As teams were on the field, gunshots rang out. While players, coaches, parents, and fans all went running for cover, a coach was struck by a bullet.

This all happened at a baseball complex called The Rac in Katy, Texas. As teams were getting ready to play, bullets started flying. Witnesses say it wasn't just a couple of shots, but it was continued firing. Videos of the incident capture the audio of numerous rounds being fired.

As the terrifying scene played out, a 27-year-old coach was struck in the upper arm by a bullet. He was the only person shot during the incident.

The coach was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Many across the United States expect this story to be a planned attack. However that doesn't appear to be the situation. While some reports suggest that hunters were involved in firing the weapons, an update from law enforcement is a little different.

Authorities Have Three Suspects They Believe Were Involved

Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry released a statement on Monday, September 22nd, indicating that three people are suspected of firing the weapons. But the Sheriff never used the term 'hunting' in the release. He only states that the suspects had 'discharged firearms from a nearby pasture, in the direction of the field". The Sheriff also says the suspects have been identified.

Investigators intend to pursue charges of Deadly Conduct, and other related offenses. The charge of Deadly Conduct in Texas is a little ambiguous; it can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. The misdemeanor charge could bring up to one year in jail, and a $4,000 fine. While the felony version could lead to 10 years in state prison and a fine of $10,000.

Should Parents In Shreveport Be Concerned?

This story has sparked concerns all across the country, including with Shreveport area parents. While many of the stories about shootings can be focused on security concerns in venues, this story is different by being a wide open area. Baseball fields are generally wide open areas, with open access all around. The shots fired in this story didn't come from inside the complex, the shots were fired outside of the baseball complex.
