(Dallas, TX) After another season where the Dallas Cowboys missed the playoffs, it looks like the team will be looking for a new head coach in 2025.

According to Bleacher Report, Mike McCarthy reportedly will not return as the Dallas Cowboys' head coach ending a five-year tenure with the team.

The Cowboys went 49-35 from 2020-2024 under McCarthy, making the playoffs each year from 2021-2023 and winning the NFC East in 2021 and 2023.

Dallas also won 12 games apiece from 2021-2023, marking the team's most successful three-year regular-season stretch since 1993-1995. But McCarthy's team failed to find playoff success during his run as HC. McCarthy's teams were notably upset by the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers at home in the NFC Wild Card round in 2021 and 2023.

The 2024 season began with McCarthy entering the final season of a five-year contract signed before the 2020 campaign. Dallas started 3-2 but then went on a five-game losing streak. Quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9, and the Cowboys' defense under first-year defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer bottomed out.

McCarthy's Cowboys did finish a respectable 4-3 after the tough 3-7 start, but the team still fell four games short of the playoffs. McCarthy's status was still up in the air, but news emerged of his contract expiration date of Jan. 14 and its being reported the team and McCarthy couldn't come to terms on a new contract.

McCarthy has interest from several teams including the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints while the Cowboys will begin searching for answers once again to end their nearly 3 decade drought of reaching the Super Bowl.
