Fall in Lubbock means cooler weather, football, pumpkin-flavored everything and finally being able to walk from your car to a building without feeling like you're being roasted.

It also means the return of a longtime local tradition.

37 Years of Fall Fun in Lubbock

The Lubbock Fall Festival runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3rd, on the Children’s Home of Lubbock campus at 4404 Idalou Road.

The family-friendly event has been bringing people together for nearly four decades, and organizers have packed this year's festival with plenty to do.

You'll find local vendors selling crafts and other goods, a bake sale loaded with homemade treats, food trucks, kids' games, inflatables and a silent auction featuring unique items and experiences.

Basically, bring the kids hungry and give yourself enough time to browse.

The Festival Helps Lubbock Kids, Too

Of course, there's a much bigger reason behind all the fun.

Proceeds from the silent auction and bake sale directly benefit the Children’s Home of Lubbock and its work with children in need.

Chief Development Officer Tiffany Schuler said,

Fall Festival is one of those traditions that really shows what the Lubbock community is all about. We get to welcome families onto our campus for a fun day together while also giving them a glimpse into the mission they help make possible.

And that mission has been part of Lubbock for a very long time.

The Children’s Home Has Served Lubbock Since 1954

The Children’s Home of Lubbock has been serving children and families since 1954.

Over those years, the organization says it has helped more than 7,500 children through services including on-campus foster care, counseling, adoption and independent-living support.

The Christ-centered nonprofit works with children who have experienced abuse, neglect or trauma, with a mission of providing them with hope, healing and a safe, nurturing environment.

So while buying something from the bake sale might seem like a pretty small contribution, all those brownies and cookies add up.

Besides, I don't need much convincing when supporting a good cause involves baked goods.

The 37th Annual Lubbock Fall Festival happens Saturday, October 3rd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4404 Idalou Road.

Admission is free, there's plenty for the kids to do, and you'll be supporting an organization that's been helping children in our community for more than 70 years.

That's a pretty good way to spend a fall Saturday in Lubbock.
