Former Texas Officer to Serve Time in Prison on Child Porn Charge
A former Texas police officer on trial for Child Pornography charges was sentenced in Lubbock. Robert Roger was a San Angelo Police Officer who was being investigated by the FBI after agents were notified about a chat room named #daughtergiveaway. The chat room in question was geared towards men that had a sexual interest in their own daughters, stepdaughters or were interested in sharing their daughters with men over the internet.
KAMC news reports that Roger was being investigated after showing some interest in traveling to the city of Mobile, Alabama for the opportunity of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. During the course of the investigation into Roger he is said to have sent agents, posing as a child, two videos and six photos of examples of child sexual abuse.
Investigators were then able to gather records on Roger's previous interactions and were able to obtain evidence that Rogers had sent even more images and videos of children being sexually abused. Roger was interviewed by the FBI and expressed that he was sure that they knew more than they were telling him and assumed they checked his KIK messenger history. Roger was then arrested in San Angelo in October of 2022 but at the time of his arrest was not actively employed as a police officer.
Roger was on trial at the federal courthouse in Lubbock where he did plead guilty to Receipt and Distribution of Child Pornography. Roger was sentenced to 20 years in prison and will have to carry out his sentence in Seagoville. Roger will have to register as a sex offender and will be on supervised release for 25 years after his release.
