From Incarceration to Inspiration: Texas Hero’s Life-Saving Acts
A man in North Texas was called a hero following the second time he saved someone's life in just six weeks.
Meet Jacob Bell, a citizen of Ellis County who happened to be in the right place at the right time... twice.
Bell was also incarcerated for 20 years following burglary charges in 1996. It was in prison that he made the conscious decision to turn his life around and start living for others.
Lake Waxahachie Drowning
In August of this year, 21-year-old Lincer Lopez and Genesis Delgado, 15, were with their church group being baptized in Lake Waxahachie. Delgado broke away from the group to a shallow portion of the lake, not knowing that there was a steep drop-off just a few steps away.
She slipped and fell into the deep abyss, and Lopez, without skipping a beat, leapt in to save his friend. Lopez ended up giving his life for Delgado, drowning in the lake in his rescue attempt.
Jacob Bell, witnessing the events unfold from his boat, rushed into the water and swam Delgado to shore. He also went back to retrieve Lopez's body which will be sent back to his family.
Comanche County Burning Vehicle
Six weeks later, Bell was driving down a road in Comanche County when he happened to drive past a horrible car wreck with an overturned car on fire.
He pulled over to check if there were any people trapped and, sure enough, he saw an arm dangling near the inflated air bag. After pulling the stranger out of the flaming wreckage, Bell began administering CPR to the unresponsive body.
Texas DPS indicated that the driver was a 72-year-old man from Houston who may have experienced a medical issue prior to colliding with a telephone pole.
Jacob Bell stated that he believes he was put in both of these scenarios for a reason, and that there is a Higher Power working in his life for the good of others.
