Why a Belton School Just Turned a Crosswalk Into a Lasting Tribute
I always say that educators play one of the most important roles in our children’s lives. You don’t even necessarily have to be a teacher; just being part of a school district can make a difference. You could be a janitor and still be influential in our children’s lives. That’s why it’s so important that we not only teach our children to respect educators and staff, but also to appreciate them.

Belton School Dedicates Crosswalk to Long-Time Guard
According to FOX 44, that’s exactly what Belton ISD did when they dedicated a crosswalk near an elementary school to Leonard Wayne Harris, who served as a crosswalk guard for over 19 years. The superintendent of Belton ISD, Dr. Melinda Golden, stated that Leonard is one of the first people students see at the start of the day and one of the last they see before heading home. She also said that he protects what matters most to our families.
Congratulations To You, Mr. Leonard Wayne Harris
I couldn’t agree more. Dr. Golden also shared that the daily consistency and heart for service are what truly define a school community. The impact that school districts have on our children, whether good or bad, matters, and I can appreciate that Belton ISD took a moment to celebrate that. Congratulations, Leonard Wayne Harris.
