Belton’s Fry’s Closes its Doors, Reopening Nearby Under a New Name

When the beloved diner Fry’s closed in Belton in 2025, Belton, Texas, wasn’t the only place that was sad to see the iconic diner go. All of Central Texas felt the loss. People came from all over Texas just to sit down and enjoy good home fries, chicken, sausage, and other delicious food from this beloved establishment. So, when it closed, people were genuinely hurt. Allegedly, the reason for the closure had to do with differences between the owners. Regardless of the reason, Central Texas lost something truly special.

Where Is The Frys New Location And Name?

But according to KCEN, it wasn’t farewell to Fry’s. It was more like, “See you later,” because the staple is coming back to Belton under a new name: JD’s Café. I’m not going to lie, I’m super ecstatic about this restaurant coming back because there are so many memories tied to eating at this establishment. The restaurant will be located in the old Jake’s Chinese Restaurant building at 520 E. 6th Ave. in Belton.

Here's What The Owners Realized About How Special Fry's Was To The Community

According to George Jara, one of the owners, the closing of Fry’s hit harder than they expected. They didn’t fully understand what the restaurant meant to Central Texas until after it was gone. After running the restaurant for nearly 11 years, it had been a lot of hard work. Even then, George said he didn’t realize just how famous the restaurant was to the community until people continuously asked him if it would ever return.

There is no specific opening date yet, but I think I speak for all of Central Texas when I say I’m so happy to know Fry’s is coming back in a new form! Here’s hoping JD’s Café brings back some of that same great food, atmosphere, and memories that made Fry’s so special.
