First of all, it's been revealed by FOX 44 that reports have come in about this situation. First off, individuals who seek to walk around in the city limits and attempt to sell something need a permit to do so, which was stated by the Robinson Police Department. According to the Texas Attorney General, there are ways to make sure the person at the door isn't a scam. What you can do, as stated: "Always ask for a physical address and for references, and then take time to check the information."

In addition, Robinson police said to remember these when alerting law enforcement to a possible door-to-door scam:

- A physical description of the individual(s)
- Vehicle description (make, model, color, license plate)
- Location and direction of travel
