Killeen ISD’s Annual Freedom Walk Returns with a Powerful Message This Year

It is that time of year when the community comes together with the Killeen Independent School District (KISD) to prepare for the annual Freedom Walk, according to FOX 44. The Freedom Walk is an important event that brings students, families, community members, and local organizations together to remember the victims and honor the heroes of the September 11, 2001, attacks. The event also recognizes military members, veterans, police officers, firefighters, and other first responders who have served and protected their communities.

Killeen ISD Set to Host Annual Freedom Walk Event

This year’s Freedom Walk is especially meaningful because it will be the 20th annual KISD Freedom Walk and will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The event will be held on Friday, September 11, at 9:30 a.m. It will begin at Harker Heights High School with a ceremony in the auditorium. Following the ceremony, participants will take part in a group walk around the stadium track.

Killeen district students, Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) members, band members, choir members, military representatives, police officers, firefighters, and Gold Star families are expected to participate in the event. Their participation helps make the Freedom Walk a meaningful way to remember those who lost their lives and recognize the courage and sacrifices of those who responded.
