Shopping for school clothes, preparing for your first interview, and finding some of the best appliances will soon look different, according to WFAA. Everyone’s favorite department store, Kohl’s, will be closing more than 20 stores nationwide, including some in Texas. On Thursday, the retailer announced plans to eliminate at least 27 underperforming stores by spring 2025.

CEO Tom Kingsbury stated, “We take these decisions very seriously. As we continue to build our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also make difficult but necessary choices to support the health and future of our business, for both our customers and our teams.”

The popular department store also confirmed that associates have been informed about the changes. They will be offered a severance package or the option to apply for open roles at other Kohl’s locations.

Additionally, Kingsbury announced that he will step down as CEO on January 15 and retire from the Board of Directors in May. Kohl’s, which has long used the slogan “Where Family Comes First,” will soon be a distant memory here in Texas. Kohl's is and will always be the go-to store for the everyday person. A little pricier than Walmart but with the same quality and style as Sak Fifth Avenue and Macy's. This store will be missed.
