For nearly a decade, Killeen's north side has struggled without a grocery store. Now, there's talk that something may finally be happening for the area, or at least that the conversation is moving forward. But many residents say the conversation is long overdue and that it's time for action.

Northside Of Killeen Has Spoken!

Growing up on Killeen's north side, I've written countless articles about why a grocery store is so important for that part of town. When I speak with people from my old neighborhood who still live there, they all tell me the same thing. They don't even want to fight anymore for an H-E-B, Whole Foods, or Walmart. Instead, nearly everyone agrees they would be happy with an Aldi.

Why Is Aldi's a Good Choice?

I couldn't agree more. Aldi is affordable, practical, and large enough to create jobs while providing the community with access to fresh, affordable groceries.
Residents are tired of having to drive on the highway or take back roads through Harker Heights, such as FM 439, just to pick up a forgotten onion or another grocery item. Something as simple as buying food shouldn't require leaving your side of town.

Give The People What They Are Asking For

When I spoke with a resident who wished to remain anonymous, they said they feel like the city has forgotten about them. That leaves many residents feeling unheard and unappreciated. At the end of the day, these are the people who vote for our City Council. These are the people who live in the community every day and know exactly what the north side needs. In my opinion, even though I no longer live in the area, if the people are asking for an Aldi, then the city should do everything it can to help make that happen. I understand there are permits, planning, and conversations that have to take place first, but hopefully the north side of Killeen finally gets the grocery store its residents have been asking for.
