Breaking: Indiana And Texas Tech Coach Bobby Knight Now Dead

902 career Division 1 NCAA basketball victories was the record when Bobby Knight retired from coaching at Texas Tech University in 2008, and remained the record until Mike Krzyzewski (who actually played for Knight while he was coach at West Point, and went on to be an assistant) passed him almost exactly 12 years ago on November 15, 2011. Now, 15 years since his retirement, Coach Knight is the 6th winningest coach in NCAA history, and has passed away at the age of 83.

He was born Robert Montgomery Knight in Ohio in 1940, and began his basketball career at Orrville High School in Orrville, Ohio before continuing his athletic career and education at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. While at OSU, Knight was part of the national championship 1960 team that defeated Oscar Robertson and the Cincinnati Bearcats, only to turn around and lose to Cincinnati (after Robertson had moved onto the NBA) the following two seasons in the title game.

Bobby Knight will always be remembered for coaching the last undefeated NCAA team.
