With the wild amount of people that are moving to the Lone Star State each year, one of the jobs that is in highest demand is truck driving because of our constant need for supply chain materials. That is one of the reasons why a Killeen, Texas woman decided to invest in her future by spending around $7,000 dollars and attended truck driving school in order to receive highly skilled training and a commercial drivers license.

According to this Yahoo News article

"Truck drivers earn an average of about $55,000 per year, a fact that many students don’t realize."

Ben Stafford is vice president of workforce development and continuing education at Lamar State College Port Arthur, and he added,

"Our education system doesn’t emphasize work like commercial driving even though you can make a good living, so we have drivers retiring at a faster rate than they are training."

So, trucking companies across Texas should be hiring men and women left and right?

Well, apparently that is not necessarily the case for Ashli Streeter or other women truck drivers. The basis of the class action lawsuit is women are being told they have jobs, but then are not actually getting to start work because of a hick up in the training process.

Streeter and the other plaintiffs are claiming that they cannot receive the mandatory driving time with an experienced driver because Stevens Transport only allows female trainers to work with female trainees. Women make up just 8% of all truck drivers.
