Suspect Arrested In Shooting Of 2 Cheerleaders In Elgin, Texas
On Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, two cheerleaders part of Woodlands Elite Cheer Company were injured after a shooting occurred. These are the facts of the shooting as we know them currently.
Details Of The Case
Four cheerleaders were in the parking lot of the Elgin H-E-B at midnight on Tuesday. According to ABC 13, the parking lot of the establishment was used as a carpool area to help with travel to the Cheer Company area. One of the cheerleaders that morning, Heather Roth, proceeded to get out of her friend's vehicle to return to her own car.
As Heather got into what she believed to her vehicle, she discovered an unnamed individual in the car. Scared after noticing the individual, she left the vehicle, and went back to her friend's automobile. After Roth returned to her friend's car, the man exited the vehicle she mistakenly entered.
As corroborated by the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office via ABC 13, Roth rolled down window to the vehicle to apologize, but the unnamed individual then raised their hands, revealed a firearm, and shot at the car.
Roth suffered minor injuries, however, her teammate Payton Washington, also in the car, received injuries to her leg and back. Washington was taken to the hospital in the area in critical condition.
Following investigation, Elgin Police were able to arrest the unnamed individual, Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr. At the time of writing, he has been charged with Deadly Conduct, but sources have told ABC 13 more charges are possible.
As this a developing story, we will have more information as it becomes available.
