Three Awesome Marines From the Great State of Texas
November 10th, 1775, is the birthday of the greatest fighting force in the United States military, the United States Marine Corps. I am a Marine Corps Veteran that served from 1998 to 2003, and I deployed to Iraq during my time of service. The Marines take a lot of pride in all things "Marine Corps", and the birthday of the Marine Corps is one of our most celebrated dates. In honor of this day, I would like to share with you five marines with a close relationship to Texas.
Michael E. Langley
Harlon Henry Block
Corporal Block was born in Yorktown, TX in 1924. He joined the Marines in 1943, and he deployed to Iwo Jima in 1945. Corporal block was one the marines pictured on February 23, 1945, in the "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" photograph. He was killed in action just a few days later at Iwo Jima on March 1st.
Donald Roan Dunagan
Dunagan was born in San Antonio, TX in 1934. He retired as a major from the Marine Corps after 22 years in 1977. He received many awards during his career including a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Prior to his service in the Marine Corps, Major Dunagan was an actor. He portrayed Peter von Frankenstein in the 1939 film Son of Frankenstein, and most famously, he voiced the young Bambi in Disney's Bambi.
Happy Birthday, Marines!
