Haven't you ever thought about how it would have been to live back at some time in history? I probably wouldn't want to back to when they didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing but don't some movies make you want to take an adventure? When we want to get somewhere quickly we hop on a plane we are there in no time. Over a hundred years ago when people were taking a long trip they had to take the train. I love the fact that you can still have that experience today. In East Texas, you can experience a lifestyle of long ago as you travel from Palestine to Rusk. We did this when I was a young kid. We took the open-air train ride but today you have the option of the open-air ride or a luxury car.

Rusk, Texas, is where the Texas State Railroad began and now you can enjoy a 4-hour train excursion from Rusk to Palestine and back. While on your journey you can enjoy the depots in both cities as well as shopping and dining. The Texas State Railroad host ride runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Mail Care Cafe is a 100-year-old Texas & Pacific mail & express car that straddles the rails alongside the depot.

As I told you, you can choose which style of ride you would like to take. Just like back in the olden days, the kind of car you wish to ride in depends on how much money you have.

The open-air train ride is $22 for the four-hour trip but if you would like the private Caboose that will run you $850 for eight people. The Caboose is a private coach that comes with a private bathroom, an outdoor observation deck, complimentary champagne, and appetizers. The Presidential Car is for adults only! This car is $87 per person and comes with complimentary champagne and appetizers, a private door view deck, and is climate-controlled.

No matter which ride you decide to take, this would be an experience of a lifetime, especially for your kids. They will never get to experience something like this around here.
