What do you if someone's heart as stopped beating in front of you? Well the obvious answer is to perform CPR on them. But what is the correct speed to perform CPR?

According to the American Heart Association, your heat beats at around 100-120 bpm (beats per minute) so that's how fast you should perform CPR. If you're not sure on the "speed" to perform CPR, the most famous song to use for reference is "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee gees.

By the way in case you need a reminder of the speed of Stayin' Alive, here you go.

The AHA actually has a playlist of songs that you can use while performing CPR. It's a great list but I think it's only fair, that as a citizen, to find songs to add to this life saving playlist. Well I did some research for songs that are around the 100-120 BPM range and I present my findings.

You can perform CPR to these songs by Texas artists

We'll start with the 100 to 110 BPM range:

  • Toadies - Possum Kingdom
  • Pantera - Hard Lines, Sunken Cheeks
  • Butthole Surfers - Dracula from Houston
  • Willie Nelson - Just Breathe (what a fitting choice isn't it?)
  • Beyoncé & Jay-Z - Crazy In Love & Virgo's Groove
  • ZZ Top - I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide, TV Dinners

Finally we have the 110 to 120 bpm range:

  • Hilary Duff - Metamorphosis
  • Willie Nelson - She Called Me Baby & Whiskey River
  • Pantera - 10's
  • Beyoncé - Texas Hold 'Em
  • ZZ Top - Penthouse Eyes, Sleeping Bag, Gimme All Your Lovin'
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan - Cold Shot
  • Kelly Clarkson - Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)
  • Kacey Musgraves - Mama's Broken Heart

(Huge thank you to Dave Thompkin's giant music database for including much of the bpm information so I can include on here)

Now this is definitely NOT a complete list of songs that fit between 100-120 bpm; but if you're in a jam and you need a song to sing to save a life, these songs could theatrically do just that.
