Celebrating Texas’ Rich Legacy Of Championship Victories
From football to baseball to basketball to hockey, there have been many times where Texas has won a major league championship in each of these four sports. But just how many times have a Texas team won in each sport? Well let’s start with a sport that is near and dear to me.
How many times has Texas won the Stanley Cup?
Although the Dallas Stars have made several playoff appearances in the NHL, they have only won one Stanley Cup in franchise history. Their sole Stanley Cup win came in 1999. However there have been several players to win a Stanley Cup on different teams who have also come from the state of Texas, which you can read about here.
How many times had Texas won a World Series?
It took a while to see an MLB team to win a World Series we FINALLY see Texas win the championship within the last decade. The Houston Astros became the first Texas team to do in 2017 & again in 2022.
The Texas Rangers won their very first one in 2023. Thus 3 World Series championships belong to Texas.
How many times has Texas won an NBA Championship?
Since the founding of the NBA, 3 teams have represented Texas. Every single team has at least ONE championship to their name:
The Houston Rockets became the first team from Texas to win an NBA championship. They won 2 back-to-back trophies in 1994 & 1995.
The San Antonio Spurs have won 5 in total; 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 & 2014.
The Dallas Mavericks currently just have one championship; they won in 2011.
In total, 8 O’Brien trophies belong to Texas; making it the most decorated sport for the Lone Star State.
How many times has Texas won a Super Bowl?
Finally, we have the world of the NFL, where things get quite interesting. The first Texas team to win a championship was NOT The Dallas Cowboys, but instead the Dallas Texans (who are now the Kansas City Chiefs). They won an AFL championship in 1962.
HOWEVER… for this list, we’re only focusing on the Super Bowl era of NFL football. That being said, the Dallas Cowboys have won a total of 5 Super Bowls; Super Bowls VI, XII, XXVII, XXVIII & XXX
The Houston Texans, on the other hand, has yet to win a Super Bowl. Neither Houston team have made it to a Super Bowl (the Oilers nor the Texans).
In total, Texas only has 5 Super Bowl victories.
