El Paso, TX is no stranger to being mentioned in movies and famous songs. Most El Pasoans are familiar with the iconic Marty Robbins song, “El Paso” or even Khaild’s “American Teen” which has a lyric that mentions El Paso’s area code, “From the city of the 915, Where all the girls are pretty.”

Well now our sister city Juarez is getting some love from a Hollywood icon, Bruce Springsteen!

Bruce Springsteen Just Dropped a Song About Ciudad Juárez—And It's Nothing Like “Born in the USA”

Bruce Springsteen is getting real and raw on his new album Tracks II: The Lost Albums, which is a collection of unreleased songs written between 1983 and 2018. One track in particular is catching everyone’s attention: “Ciudad Juárez,” a haunting ballad that paints a chilling portrait of the border city.

Now, if you're expecting classic “Born in the USA” Boss vibes with denim jackets and red, white, and blue fireworks, this track takes a sharp left. The song starts off with the first verse:

“I have a daughter as beautiful as the evening sun

We traveled north where we heard there was work to be done

She vanished into the streets of the city of death

The city of my lost heart

Ciudad Juarez”

The rest of the song takes listeners deep into a world of cartel violence, economic disparity, and unimaginable loss. He sings lyrics that capture a decades-long cycle of suffering in just two brutal lines.

“The drugs flow north across the river, the guns flow south / The blood flows here from the devil's mouth,”

The lyrics mention colonias, maquiladoras, and lost daughters—words that carry the weight of real stories, real pain, and a real city that’s long been misrepresented or forgotten altogether in pop culture.

The YouTube video that was released with the song shows a desert landscape that gives you a feel of the border desert. The song is definitely not something you would expect from The “Boss” but it was beautiful to hear our sister city being mentioned in the song, especially during these tough times where families are being torn apart.

Thanks, Bruce, for showing our sister city Juarez some love.
