If you've ever watched Good Morning El Paso on KVIA, chances are you've seen Hillary Floren delivering the morning news. But when she's not behind the anchor desk, you'll likely find her surrounded by rows of blooming lavender at Floren Family Farms in Tularosa, New Mexico.

Located about just a few hours from El Paso, Floren Family Farms has become a peaceful destination where visitors can slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the beauty and wellness benefits of lavender.

The family-owned farm is known for its seasonal U-Pick experiences, workshops, retreats, and stunning fields that feature one of my favorite plants ever: Lavender!

Floren Family Farms Is More Than Just A Lavender Farm

While Hillary helps welcome visitors and share the farm's story, much of the daily farm work is handled by her husband and family members, who have poured their hearts into creating a unique destination in southern New Mexico.

Recently, the farm found itself at the center of an unexpected wildlife rescue story. A baby great horned owl affectionately named "Hootie" was discovered near the edge of the lavender farm by local resident Cressie Drummond during a morning walk. She described the tiny owl as a "white fluff ball" sitting on the ground and staring back at her.

The Floren family stepped in, keeping the owlet safe overnight from predators and the elements before helping transport him to wildlife experts. Hootie was first taken to Second Chance Wildlife Rehab Center in El Paso and then transferred to the El Paso Zoo's Raptor Rehabilitation Program, where veterinarians treated him for a serious infection.

After spending several weeks growing and recovering, Hootie continued his rehabilitation at Gila Wildlife Rescue in Silver City, New Mexico. The young owl is expected to be released back onto the lavender farm in the coming weeks, bringing his remarkable journey full circle.

Lavender Nights: Comedy, Live Music and BBQ

Visitors hoping to experience the farm for themselves have a perfect opportunity this weekend during Lavender Nights: Comedy, Live Music and BBQ on Saturday, June 27th.

The event combines everything that makes summer in New Mexico special. Guests can enjoy live music from Ian Pendergras, a family-friendly comedy performance from Roger Maier, and delicious food from Smokin' J's BBQ while relaxing beneath the farm's towering cottonwood trees.

Admission is just $10 and includes the chance to pick your own lavender bouquet. Children are free.

The evening begins at 6 p.m., just as the sun starts to set. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and their favorite beverages and settle in for an unforgettable evening.

The farm's white barn will also be open, offering lavender-inspired products including lotions, soaps, scrubs, CBD pain relief products, freshly baked lavender treats, and more. Guests can also sip on the farm's almost-famous lavender lemonade while exploring the property.
