Spitting on someone is not only disgusting, it's also a major health hazard, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic. It's also against the law, and if you do it to a public servant, it can result in a felony charge, which is exactly what happened to Jahvon Byrd of Killeen.

The party got started at AdventHealth Central Texas in the emergency room, according to the Killeen Daily Herald. It's unclear what Byrd was unhappy about, but allegedly he started swinging, threw a cup at one staff member, spit on another, and kept shouting threats that more saliva and violence was coming.

It was around this time that a staff member called the police and requested help, since Byrd refused to calm down. After a unit arrived and an officer told Byrd he was under arrest for assault, he just kept shouting threats at the staff.

Finally, as he was being put in the police car, Byrd gathered himself together and spit on the officer not once, not twice, but multiple times. He was charged with harassment of a public servant, which is a third-degree felony in the state of Texas.

Byrd's bail was set at $100,000 by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke, which is a stiffer penalty than a Midland woman received earlier this year for a similar incident.

Georgee Marie Lara told police she had COVID-19, then spit in the face of one of the officers. Lara was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, and was released on $5,000 bond.

It would seem that this type of offense has been going on for a while now, unfortunately. Last year, Valleycentral.com reported that a man in Harlingen was arrested and charged with Terroristic Threat for causing a panic by spitting on a public bench after claiming he had 'an infectious disease'.
