Last week, it was reported that Elon Musk is trying to encourage engineers and scientists to move to Texas, and now it looks like his friend, Joe Rogan, is hoping to get comedians to move here too.

If you follow Rogan's podcast or social media, you know he recently moved to Westlake Hills just west of Austin. Austonia now reports that Rogan has his eye on the One World Theater on Bee Cave Road in Austin, where he plans to open a world class comedy club.

Joe Rogan has strong roots in comedy. That's how he originally made his name. He moved from Boston to Los Angeles in 1994 and signed a deal with Disney. He appeared in the shows Hard Ball and NewsRadio in the 90's, then started working for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as a host. He also hosted Fear Factor in the early 2000's.

Rogan began his podcasting career in 2009 when he launched The Joe Rogan Experience. In 2019 he signed a multi-year $100 million deal with Spotify.

Austonia reports that Rogan's friend Adam Eget, most famous for being comedian Norm Macdonald's podcast collaborator and beloved punching bag, will run the new club with Rogan. Joe's been active in the Austin comedy scene since moving there, and has said he wants to show people that, in today's world, talented people don't have to flock to the Hollywood machine to be successful.

Meanwhile, closer to home, Twice as Funny Comedy Lounge in Killeen is its own comedy mecca. Some big names perform there regularly, and more are on the way.

Chingo Bling is scheduled to appear on Friday and Saturday with Gary Owen coming through in May. Tommy Davidson of "In Living Color" fame is also scheduled to appear in May. Those shows should sell out, so pick your tickets up quickly.

Maybe Joe's on to something, and the entire Central Texas area could be a new creative and entertainment capitol.
