The city of Killeen announced Wednesday that Petco Love has donated a $300,000 grant to Killeen Animal Services.

According to a news release from the City of Killeen's Hilary Shine, the grant will provide $100,000 over the next three years for use in preventative and emergency care for animals at the Killeen Animal Shelter.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Killeen Animal Services and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to creating a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized," said Pecto Love President Susanne Kogut.

Kogut added that the organization's local grant investments are just one component of a national effort they're making to empower animal lovers to help save lives.

Petco Love has invested $300 million dollars for adoptive and lifesaving efforts over the past 20 years. Killeen Animal Services has partnered with Petco Love since 2014, where they have provided thousands of sterilization and vaccination vouchers that have enhanced shelter sanitation.

“The relationship between Petco Love and Killeen Animal Services is strong,” said Joe Brown, executive director of Recreation Services in Killeen. “What’s really special about this grant investment is that it tangibly assists animals within our community in a very positive way. To be awarded this grant is an absolute win and a game-changer for animals in need in our community.”

The Killeen Animal Shelter is located at 3118 Commerce Drive near Killeen High School. They're open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM. You can see all the pets up for adoption at killeentexas.gov/animals.

Shelter pets make great additions to families, and when you adopt you're saving a life and giving a little buddy a better life. If you're looking to make an addition to your family, please consider adopting from one of our local shelters. Just be sure you're in it for the long haul, because a pet is a living thing and a commitment. They'll be depending on you for companionship and care, and in return they'll give you lots of love and fun times.
