The new year is off to a frosty start in Central Texas, prompting the City of Killeen to open the doors of the Killeen Community Center to those in need.

Hilary Shine with the City of Killeen announced Wednesday afternoon that the Killeen Community Center at 2201 E Veterans Memorial Blvd has been opened as a temporary warming station.

"Warming station operations are expected to continue until Friday morning when temperatures are predicted to rise," Shine said. "The warming station is set up to offer temporary relief from cold and does not offer full sheltering services."

If you know or come across someone who needs this warming station, please direct or give them a ride to the Killeen Community Center.
