James Robert Berndt II is being held in the Bell County Jail on $50,000 bond. He is charged with burglary of a habitation.

According to an arrest affidavit, Berndt told police that he burglarized the same house ten times over a period of several weeks.

The owner reported on June 18 that his home on North Fort Hood St. had been broken into, and that a firearm and some jewelry had been taken.

Police responded again to the same residence on July 1. During the investigation, the resident informed police that he thought he knew who the burglar was.

According to the resident, a man had been living in the house for about six months and had been told by the resident to move out three months ago. The burglaries began after that incident.

Berndt was arrested on Tuesday, and told officers in an interview that he had broken into the house about ten times by prying bars off of a window.
